Some purely random thoughts on a Monday

We try to go to my parents' house on Fridays for Shabbat dinner. It's about the most peaceful time of the week. During the meal, we go around the table and say two things: 1. The best thing that has happened to us during the week and 2. What we are most grateful for. There is a revolving guest list on Fridays and those of us that are regulars know to come prepared. We try and encourage everyone to participate, and everyone usually likes the game. I am going to try and write them in my blog each week.

Last week, the best thing that happened to me was being able to spend a relaxing New Year's Eve with my wife, daughter, sister-in-law Donna, and my nephews, Nicholas and Anthony, which was followed up by a relaxing day with some of my closest friends, The Kaplans and The Romms. Donna and the nephews checked in to a hotel so they could hang out, swim in the pool, and have a fun night out. We went out for dinner, and then went back to the hotel. Anthony and I swam in the pool for a while, and then we just hung in the room, played the game of Life, watched a movie and just relaxed. Christine, Avery and I were home by 11 and watched the ball drop together.

New Year's Day was great too as we went next door to the Kaplans for lunch. Ken and his wife Carrie (The Romms) came up from South Jersey...it's been way too long since we have seen them...and we just hung out all day, playing with the kids, putting together toys, and eating (way too much). There is really something very special about living right next door to your best friend and his family.

What I was most grateful for last week was my mother. She really is the glue in the whole operation. She manages to take care of everyone, putting everyone else first and her last. The fact that all of her children like coming home for Friday night dinners is a real testament to the home that she created for all of us. I tell her all the time that I am grateful for all that she does for us, and she tells me that she never thinks that she is doing enough.

Some other quick thoughts:
- The Giants really are a different team on the road. Eli finally looked like a professional quarterback and the defense was swarming. They have only lost one game on the road this year...at Dallas...which is where they travel to this weekend for a rematch with the Cowboys. Can they pull it off?
- Does anyone believe that Roger Clemens didn't know that Andy Pettitte took HGH until the Mitchell Report came out? I didn't think so.
- This week was the 35th anniversary of Greetings From Asbury Park...Bruce's first record. He is still putting out great records and for my money, no one does it better live.
- I still am not sure if Obama is electable, but I am starting to think that he might just be exactly what this country needs. The same rhetoric won't work...no matter which side of the political fence you sit on.

That's all for now. More soon. Until then..."stay hard, stay hungry, stay alive if you can..."

PS I am looking for a consistent sign off line...any suggestions are welcome.
